[Davidson Mesa Trailhead] Davidson Mesa Loop

28c/82f | Partly cloudy | 21% humidity | 5,670 ft highest point |

Easy flat hike closer to home today, since I didn’t feel like doing anything strenuous.

This trail has an amazing view of Boulder Valley, the Front Range, and the Indian Peaks behind them, which warrants a “stop and stare” every time.

Parking lot rating

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Wide open, no issue. This trailhead isn’t typically busy.

It’s not the best weather for a clear view of the valley and mountains today due to clouds blocking the sun, but it’s still very nice.

The aforementioned Boulder Valley overlook.

A sweeping shot of the entire view. The Rocky Mountains form a 180 degree panorama around us.

Davidson Mesa is one of, if not the best trail for seeing abundant Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs, who live in burrows that dot the landscape.

Prairie dog ft. Mexican construction music

I tried to get a good photo of the prairie dogs against the mountain backdrop, but it proved to be tricky… I also felt self conscious looking like a blatant tourist while crouching along the path.

Children beg a parent for attention before the parent coldly abandons them. It’s a cruel world out there

I’m excited to say that I’ve found a way to take better close-up photos of insects. It required an external app that allows for extra camera control options, but now, my bee photos aren’t stupidly grainy. Have a comparison:
